In summer of 2019, REKS started with one production line, with expectations for a second line to be activated as early as 2020. The plant size for the first two lines will be 7.500m2, while the surrounding land offers additional space of 75.000m2.

Since it began production, REKS made possible direct employment of more than 70 employees, a workforce that is expected to grow up to 130 employees in 2020.

REKS begins with LDPE plastic waste volumes that are imported from Western Europe. These are mainly volumes that are now being exported from Europe to Asia, or volumes that are otherwise being incinerated. Successful efforts have also resulted in sourcing volumes locally in the Western Balkan region. This could help the region in overcoming considerable challenges with plastic waste on the one hand, and with availability of stable quality regranulate on the other.

Recycling is currently one of the most attractive a viable methods to reuse plastics and manage its presence in the environment. Major global brands have publicly announced that their products will contain recycled material anywhere from 50% to 100% in the near future. These targets are not easy, as there are a lot of challenges and shortcomings to overcome. REKS will be a step in the right direction and it can boost required developments in the field of flexible plastics recycling, and bridge the existing gap between supply, production and demand.

We are therefore certain and we consider it inevitable that companies such as REKS will grow exponentially in the future, due to global rise in demand for recycled plastic. REKS, as a producer of premium recycled granulate, is very well positioned to meet the rising demands for this product.
